Augustfest gets underway with performance by American English

Beatles tribute band American English opened the St. Zachary Parish annual Augustfest Thursday night at 567 W. Algonquin Road in Des Plaines.

The fest includes all the usual summer festival staples, including a carnival, popular bands, food, bingo, casino games, a raffle and children's games.

Hours are 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, 1 p.m. to midnight Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, $3 at other times.

Other bands include Serendipity and Infinity on Friday night, Heartache Tonight and 7th Heaven on Saturday night, and the '60s oldies rock 'n' roll dance band The Meteors on Sunday night.
