Do you make the best chili in town

The PMK Knightshift will host its first chili cook-off Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Mount Prospect Bluesmobile Cruise Nights benefiting the Prospect Marching Band.

Entries are capped at 15 participants. Samples can be purchased at the car show by the public, who will then cast their vote for the best tasting chili. The winner will be rewarded with a large screen LED TV, grand champion trophy and, of course, bragging rights.

A guest judge/chef from Tokens and Tankards will award a second winner with a gift certificate worth $50. To enter the Chili Cook Off, contact PMKchilicookoff@gmail.com for further details.

There are more than 200 students in the Prospect Marching Knights that will be participating in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, in addition to a packed competition schedule.

The Prospect Marching Knights have been named Grand Champions at the University of Illinois Marching Band Festival 30 times. They were selected for the finals at least five times at the Bands of America Grand National Championship and were Grand Champions at the Bands at the Bowl (Hollywood Bowl, 2004).

They were among the top 10 finalists in the 2013 Bands of America Super Regional in St. Louis, and were named Illinois 5A State Champions in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

The PMK Knightshift is a group of band dads and car enthusiasts that are responsible for moving and transporting all the equipment that the Prospect Marching Band requires during the band season. They also make the various props the band uses.

The PMK receives strong parental support through the Prospect Band Boosters, which assists the director with procuring and maintaining uniforms, arranging transportation, logistics, food and lodging, chaperoning events, fundraising, publicity, and other activities.
