Gurnee board to honor Don Henderson

Gurnee village board members Monday night plan to recognize the man who will be the honoree of the town's annual festival. Board members will be asked to approve a proclamation for Gurnee Days honoree Don Henderson. He's helped fund some public safety and technology needs at the Gurnee fire and police departments and has financially supported the Gurnee Teacher of the Year program. A lifelong Lake County resident, Henderson moved to Gurnee in 1952 and later took over his father's construction business, J.J. Henderson & Son. Gurnee Days starts Thursday, Aug. 11 with a testimonial dinner for Henderson, a bicycle rodeo and a teen pool party. Most events Aug. 12-14 will be at Viking Park on Old Grand Avenue.
