Missing the analogy gene

In Paul Green's recent opinion piece he found it "ironic" that while the Republican Party under President Reagan fought to "tear down that wall." it now has a nominee who wants to build one. This can only be "ironic" if the two walls referred to were of the same ilk.

However, a wall built in East Germany to keep its citizens in, with armed guards that shot and killed their own citizens who tried to escape, is vastly different from a wall built to protect a country from invasion by those not coming here lawfully.

Walls can protect those inside, such as those around our embassies around the world, or keep people in who would rather be somewhere else, such as the walls of our prisons and the Berlin Wall. There is no "irony" here.

I assume Paul is an intelligent liberal and knows the difference, so does he approve of drugs, weapons and terrorists coming into our country, all of which have been actually found coming over the border? Or, is he just trying to disrespect the opposing party (Republicans) with this smoke and mirrors statement? Or, is he just missing the analogy gene?

You decide.
