York Township Republican Committeeman resigns in wake of Trump nomination

York Township Republican Committeeman Chris Ladd has announced his resignation in protest of Donald Trump's nomination for president.

In a letter to York Township Republican Chairman Anthony Cuzzone, the Elmhurst resident said, "A party willing to lend its collective capital to Donald Trump has entered a compromise beyond any credible threshold of legitimacy. There is no redemption in being one of the 'good Nazis.'"

Ladd sent the letter Thursday and posted it Friday on his blog, goplifer.com. Cuzzone did not immediately return a message seeking comment Saturday.

Ladd, who works for a software company, first became a committeeman in DuPage in 2006, after moving to the area from Houston in 2004. At the time, he was a volunteer in the John McCain campaign.

"I really loved the organization here and still do," he said. "It's very painful to leave that behind."

Ladd said he is not sure about the direction he will take. However, he said, "I can tell you that I am not on my way to the Democratic Party. I have got my own issues on that side. But I don't know, realistically, what the alternative is."

Ladd said he is not sure whether anyone in the ranks will follow his lead, but did note that locally, there was a lot of support for John Kasich and Jeb Bush.

"Everybody has got to make their own peace with this situation, and I can't say what they are going to do."
