Boomers get shut out by Otters

The Schaumburg Boomers were shut out for the eighth time this season, dropping a 4-0 contest to the Evansville Otters in the opener of a weekend series.

Evansville grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second against All-Star Kagen Hopkins. Hopkins twirled a quality start by allowing just 2 earned runs in 6 innings of work. Evansville also placed an All-Star on the hill and Tyler Vail pitched 7 shutout frames.

Neither team was able to manage much offensively with both combining for only 5 hits. Jordan Dean posted 2 hits for the Boomers, who placed just three runners in scoring position in the contest.

The Boomers (26-33) continue a busy weekend on Saturday night at 6 p.m. RHP Brett Mabry (0-2, 6.88) returns from injured reserve to start the game for Schaumburg opposite a former Boomer LHP Hunter Ackerman (3-2, 3.65).
