Des Plaines aldermen OK 'dP' marketing logo

Des Plaines aldermen have given permission for city staff to use the new "dP" logo for marketing purposes, but whether it will remain on some city police and fire department patches is still up in the air.

Aldermen voted 6-2 Monday to partially overturn a resolution they approved last December to halt additional spending on a city rebranding effort that received a negative backlash from some residents. Earlier this month, the council unanimously approved "City of Destiny" as the official city motto at the suggestion of an ad hoc committee of residents, while effectively rejecting the "Good Move" slogan that was developed by a branding consultant.

The council will vote Aug. 1 on Alderman Jim Brookman's suggestion to keep the traditional city logo - consisting of an eagle, the state of Illinois and slogan, "Dignity, Decency, Determination" - on police and fire patches. Brookman and Malcolm Chester voted "no" on Monday's resolution.

Is 'City of Destiny' in Des Plaines' future?
