2 die after crash on I-290 near Elmhurst

Two people from Elk Grove Village have died after a three-vehicle crash on I-290 east of North Avenue near Elmhurst Saturday, authorities said.

Illinois State Police identified them as Robert J. Fridlund, 82, and Norine D. Fridlund, 77, both passengers in a 2013 Nissan.

About 4:14 p.m. Saturday, a 28-year-old from Lagrange, Indiana, was driving a 2008 Acura when it crashed into the rear of the Nissan, driven by a 52-year-old woman from Elk Grove Village, police said.

The collision caused the Nissan to hit the rear of a 2017 Wabash semitrailer truck driven by a 58-year-old from Florida, police said.

By 10 p.m., all lanes on I-290 were reopened. The crash remains under investigation.
