Meteor Shower Star Party out-of-world event

Cantigny Park will host an out-of-this-world experience in partnership with Chicago's Adler Planetarium from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, Aug. 12, at 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton.

Tickets are on sale now for the annual Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party.

Astronomers and casual stargazers alike look forward to the Perseid meteor shower every year in the late summer night sky. The meteors, or "shooting stars," are best viewed at their peak, which this year will be Aug. 12-13.

The "Star Party," which sold out in 2015, is for all ages. Space-related activities for kids, live music and presentations by Adler astronomers are among the attractions before the main event as the sky darkens.

Meteors can be seen with the naked eye, but telescopes will be set up on the Cantigny Parade Field for close looks at stars and planets - many of them viewable well before dark. Picnics are welcome and Bertie's Café will stay open until 9 p.m. for snacks and ice cream.

General admission advance tickets are $12 in advance for adults or $15 on Aug. 12. Advance ticket sales end at midnight Aug. 11. Tickets for children ages 3-11 are $9 in advance or day of event. Adler Planetarium and Cantigny Park members may purchase adult tickets in advance for $9. Parking is free for ticket holders.

Ticket sales are through Adler Planetarium. To purchase tickets and for additional event information, visit www.adlerplanetarium.org/events/perseid-star-party.

The Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party is a rain or shine event. All ticket sales are final and no refunds will be issued.
