Police: Man rescued from Lake Barrington in critical condition

A 73-year-old man is in critical condition after falling from a boat into Lake Barrington, Lake County Sheriff's officials said in a news release Friday.

Sheriff's deputies said they responded to a call at approximately 10:28 a.m. of someone struggling in the water. The preliminary investigation shows the Lake Barrington man was in a boat, lost his balance and fell into the water.

The man, who was not wearing a flotation device, was unable to stay afloat and remained underwater for approximately 10 minutes, the news release said.

Wauconda Fire District launched a boat and was able to remove the man from the water. He was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Barrington, where he remains in critical condition, according to the news release.

Sheriff's detectives are investigating.
