Waukegan police are searching for suspects in two separate armed robberies that happened Tuesday on the city's southeast side.

Two people were in the backyard of a home on the 600 block of May Street about 12:15 a.m. when they were robbed by five men, two of whom had guns, according a news release from the Waukegan Police Department.

Police say the five suspects were described as: A black man between 20 and 30 years old, with short hair, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build and wearing a white sports jersey with dark pants; a black man between 20 and 30 years old, wearing a black sports jersey, whose face was covered by a brown bandanna and carrying a gun; a black man between 20 and 25 years old, about 5 feet 3 inches with a slim build and long hair, wearing a blue T-shirt and with a black bandanna covering his face, and also carrying a gun; and two other suspects were described as being between 20 and 30 years old and may have also been armed based on the way they were standing.

The second armed robbery, which police believe is not related, happened about 10 p.m. on the 800 block of Adams Street. A man told police he was sitting in his car in his driveway when a thin black man, between 20 and 30 years old, approached him with a handgun and demanded cash. The victim fought off the suspect, who left the area on a white mountain bike. The victim was not hurt, and the suspect did not get any money, the release said.
