Boomers score season-high 13 runs in victory

After a rough start Tuesday night, the Schaumburg Boomers flipped the script Wednesday afternoon in a 13-4 victory over Traverse City.

Jordan Dean scored the first run in the bottom of the first with his second solo home run in three games. The Boomers scored four more runs, capped by a bases-clearing double by James Keller to give Schaumburg a 5-0 lead after one. Ino Patron extended the lead with a solo shot in the third. Schaumburg built a 10-0 lead in the next frame on a grand slam from Paul Kronenfeld. Traverse City battled back with one in the fifth and three in the sixth but the Boomers answered with two runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth.

Scott Schultz was the beneficiary of all the offense earning his fourth win as he threw six innings allowing four runs and striking out four. The Boomers set all sorts of season records, including runs with 12, hits with 17 and extra-base hits with six. Dean tied the record for hits in a game, going 5-5 with a home run and four singles.

The Boomers look for a series win in their last home game before the all-star break Thursday night with Gunnar Kines (3-2, 3.59 ERA) on the mound.
