Kirkland's closed, but new location coming soon

Many Kirkland's devotees were shocked this spring to walk up to the popular home decorating store along the Randall Road corridor in Algonquin and find it closed.

The store, which carries pictures, knickknacks, furniture and more to deck out your home, temporarily shut its doors this spring without too much notice, leaving shoppers wondering where they'd get their signs with sayings on them and scented candles.

Luckily for fans of the store, though, it only closed so crews could prepare to move the Kirkland's in Algonquin Commons to a new location, also in Algonquin along the Randall Road corridor.

Kirkland's will be reopening this month in its new spot in the Woodscreek Shopping Center, to the north of Algonquin Commons on Randall Road, according to a news release from Kirkland's.

The store will fill the area near the old Famous Footwear store, which has been under construction to make way for the new Kirkland's. Famous Footwear moved one storefront over to the north.

The new Kirkland's will be just to the north of the Super Target in Algonquin on the west side of the road.

The new location will employ about 30 people, a news release from Kirkland's said.

There are no other Kirkland's locations along the Randall Road corridor.

However, if you need to shop at one immediately, you can head to Bloomingdale or Rockford, or you can shop online.

Fun for kids:

If you're looking for something fun for the kids to do this summer, the Color Me Mine studio along Randall Road in Geneva Commons has workshops for kids each week to help get their creative juices flowing.

Each week, the workshops at the Geneva business feature a different theme.

Instructors also will be teaching kids a new painting technique at each session.

The kids get to use different mediums to paint on at the four-day workshop camps, including clay, canvas and ceramics. As part of each session, the kids get to take home their creations.

The next session at Color Me Mine has a pool party theme, and campers will get to make clay luminarias, a personalized water tote bag, watermelon bowls and a plate with add-ons. The pool party session runs from July 11 to 14.

This summer there also will be a safari-themed session from July 18 to 21. At the camp, the kids will get to paint clay animal masks, lion banks, a jungle-theme plate and a jungle-theme canvas.

The summer sessions end with a Disney Cruise-themed camp.

At the Disney Cruise session, the kids will get to make a Disney-inspired bank, a Mickey Mouse bowl, a Disney flowerpot and a Disney canvas.

Kids can sign up for the entire week of a session, or can sign up for a day or two.
