Boomers best CornBelters 4-1

The Schaumburg Boomers kicked off the weekend with a 4-1 win Friday night over the Normal CornBelters.

The Boomers struck first in the third inning on an RBI double by Jordan Dean. Schaumburg scored 2 more runs in the inning when a pickoff throw from the Normal catcher bounced off Kenny Towns' helmet.

Paul Kronenfeld homered for the second consecutive game to give the Boomers a 4-0 lead in the sixth. Normal scored a run and had the tying run at the plate in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.

Gunnar Kines threw 7⅔ scoreless innings, retiring 13 batters in a row.

This win snaps a four-game skid for Schaumburg. They'll look to make it two wins in a row on Saturday with last week's Frontier League Pitcher of the week Kagen Hopkins (3-1, 2.28) on the mound.
