Construction resumes at Algonquin Commons

The construction you navigated through at Algonquin Commons last summer is back again, and it will be here until fall.

The Randall Road area mall started on the second phase of its Paving the Way Construction project this month.

This year, the project includes replacing all of the asphalt and concrete - including parking lots, curbs and sidewalks - to the south of Commons Drive.

The first part of the 2016 project includes the areas near 2nd Wind, Thirsty Whale, Fuddruckers and Mattress Firm, said Kim Gilmore of Gilmore Marketing Concepts, which does marketing for Algonquin Commons.

Once that section of the project is nearly complete, the work will spread to other areas of the mall.

The progress of the project, and the areas targeted for construction, all will be available throughout the project on the mall's website, www.ShopAtAlgonquinCommons.com.

Mall officials said that Alliance Contractors, which is heading up the project, will work to ensure that public areas are passable for shoppers and drivers so they can get to where they are going in the mall at all times.

There will be signs leading drivers and pedestrians to safe and convenient passageways during the project as well.

To make the project a little less of an annoyance, the mall is giving away plastic hard hats to youngsters. Children can get them at the mall office, which is not under construction and is near Aeropostale and Tilly's.

The mall also plans to hold gift card giveaways and social media contests to entice people to continue shopping at Algonquin Commons during the project.

Plans call for the construction on the second phase of Paving the Way to end this fall.

Sleep Number store:

The Sleep Number mattress store along Randall Road in Algonquin is getting a new home.

The business, which sells mattresses that are customizable for different comfort levels, is moving to a newly constructed, free-standing building at 1531 S. Randall Road in Algonquin, near Famous Dave's.

Previously the Sleep Number store was at 1746 S. Randall in the Algonquin Commons shopping center, near Subway.

The new store will feature more room for sleep professionals, who will help customers find the best fit to give them a good night's sleep, store representatives said.

They said they chose to move because of the visibility the stand-alone store along Randall will give them.

"We are excited about the brand visibility we will get with our new Algonquin store location, and we believe repositioning to this location will better enable us to serve our customers in this trade area," said Andy Carlin, Select Comfort executive vice president and chief sales and service officer.

In addition to Algonquin, there also is a Sleep Number store along the Randall Road corridor in Geneva Commons, 1522 Commons Drive. In all, there are 16 Sleep Number stores in the Chicago area.
