Rolling Meadows teen charged with sexual abuse

A Rolling Meadows teenager was ordered held on $50,000 bail Friday on charges she sexually abused a friend staying at her home.

Esmerelda Trejo, 18, was charged with criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse. If convicted of the most serious offense, she faces up to 15 years in prison. Probation is also an option.

The friend, an 18-year-old female, was sleeping over at Trejo's house Monday, prosecutors said. The girls drank tequila together and watched a movie, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Alyssa Grissom. The friend fell asleep and awoke to Trejo molesting her, Grissom said.

The friend ran to the bathroom where she texted another person who picked her up, Grissom said. The friend subsequently told her family and Rolling Meadows police what happened, Grissom said.

Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Trejo have no contact with the other woman and submit to a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew. Cataldo also ordered Trejo refrain from alcohol or drugs.

Trejo next appears in court on July 22.
