St. Charles man held on burglaries accused of destroying jail camera

A St. Charles man accused of three separate cases of home invasion, burglary and heroin possession now faces another felony: destroying a surveillance camera in his jail cell.

Christen Deleslin, 20, of the 100 block of North Fifth Avenue, is accused of damaging the $1,200 camera at the Kane County jail June 2 and it had to be replaced, according to Kane County court records.

The felony criminal damage to state-supported property charge carries a punishment ranging from probation to five years in prison of convicted, but that could be the least of Deleslin's legal worries.

He is charged with: possession of heroin and other drugs within 1,000 feet of school or park in Elgin on Jan. 18, 2016; breaking into an apartment on the 600 block of Chester Avenue in Elgin, restraining the occupants and stealing cash and electronics on Jan. 19, 2016; and a Jan. 1, 2016 home invasion and burglary in Carpentersville

In the Jan. 1 matter, police say Deleslin, O'Shay Montgomery and another man robbed a Carpentersville couple of televisions and electronics after entering their home on the 0-99 block of Robin Road during the day demanding to know where the drugs were. The couple did not know their assailants and were not involved in any criminal drug activity, police said.

Montgomery, 20, of Elgin, was arrested shortly after a warrant was issued in early June and police are still looking for the third suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Carpentersville Police at (847) 551-3481.

Together, the minimum sentences on these three crimes is 14 years in prison.

Deleslin was being held on $310,000 bail. He appeared briefly in court this week and is next due before a judge July 22.
