Buffalo Grove walk Sunday helps local food pantries

The Northwest Suburban Interfaith Council is sponsoring a walk Sunday in Buffalo Grove to stock food pantries at four churches and to strengthen interfaith community relations.

I-Walk to Feed the Hungry is a 5K family event to aid food pantries at Congregation Beth Am, Kingswood United Methodist Church and St. Mary Parish in Buffalo Grove and at St. Alphonsus Liguori Church in Prospect Heights. Other participating religious institutions are Congregations Beth Judea, B'nai Shalom and Shir Hadash, Temple Chai, Hope Lutheran, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and St. Viator High School.

Registration is 1:15 to 2 p.m. and the walk starts at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at the St. Mary Parking Lot, 10 N. Buffalo Grove Road. The walk will proceed to Hope Lutheran and back to St. Mary. Music and refreshments will be provided at Hope Lutheran. Children must be accompanied by an adult and pets are not allowed.

While the walk is free, cash or check donations to aid the food pantries are encouraged. With the start of summer, school-based food resources are not available to many needy families, and the demands on food pantries are great.
