South Elgin's 4th of July Parade to honor Operation Warrior Wishes

Cheer on South Elgin's Independence Day event as villagers turn out for an old-fashioned, flag-waving parade through the heart of town.

This hometown tradition honors our nation's independence and the veterans who have fought to protect it.

The parade steps off promptly at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4. It begins at the corner of Wedgewood Drive and Spring Street and travels through town, ending at the Lions clubhouse on Fulton Street.

The village announced that Operation Warrior Wishes will be grand marshals for the parade. Operation Warrior Wishes will honor Carl Menconi during this year's parade. The 85-year-old Carl Menconi of Elgin passed away in February. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he joined the Chicago Police Department serving for 35 years, retiring at the rank of sergeant. He was a member of the Elgin American Legion Post 57. To learn more about Operation Warrior Wishes, visit warriorwishes.org.

Spring Street will be closed east between McLean Boulevard and Collins Street at 8:30 a.m. The following streets will be impacted for the parade route: Spring Street east; Water Street south; State Street east; Center Street south; East Plum Street east; and Fulton Street south.

For alternative routes, travel east or west, use Kane Street, Sundown Road, or Bowes Road as a bypass. To cross the river, the Red Gate Bridge south or Lake Street north of Route 31 are alternatives.
