Lombard driver services facility reopens for vehicle stickers only

The Lombard driver services facility has reopened again — but this time only for drivers needing vehicle stickers.

The partial reopening started Saturday. Full services will be offered again in the coming weeks, once the broken heating and air conditioning systems that shut down the facility a month ago are repaired.

“Part of the reason we're doing this is the end of June can get busy for registration renewals,” said Secretary of State spokesman David Druker.

The facility will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday. Portable air conditioners have been placed inside.

Officials closed the facility, 837 S. Westmore-Meyers Road, on May 25, after the heating and air conditioning systems broke and temperatures inside reached about 90 degrees. The state rents the facility, and the property owner is responsible for the repairs.

“Hopefully we'll have the rest of the place up and running as soon as possible,” Druker said.

Until the Lombard site fully reopens, the nearest location for all driver and vehicle services is in Naperville at 931 W. 75th St. For a list of other locations, visit the Secretary of State's website, at cyberdriveillinois.com.
