St. Charles East graduate receives Eagle Scout

Trent Harshbarger received Boy Scout's highest rank June 12 at an Eagle Court of Honor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Charles. He is a member of Troop 13, St. Charles.

For his Eagle project, Trent organized and led a team of volunteers to restore and maintain the Frisbee golf park for the St. Charles Park District. His project took more than 180 hours of labor over four days. Trent and his volunteers removed hundreds of pounds of deadfall from three courses and used them in the hillside of each course to prevent the uprooting of trees. They also dug up soil which was used to fill in the retaining walls they had constructed from the deadfall. The crew produced and replaced several walk-up steps in the hillside to make it easier to access the course. Trent and his crew also cleaned the park of trash and debris as well as cut back overgrown trails. The hard work of Trent and his volunteers made the course more accessible for people to enjoy as well as helped to preserve and protect the natural environment.

Trent earned 45 Merit Badges, the Mile Swim thrice, the 100 Miler Hiking Award, and the National Honor Patrol Award. Trent attended 7 years of Gerber Scout Camp and High Adventures at Boundary Waters, Philmont Scout Ranch, and Florida Sea Base. Trent held the leadership positions of Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, Patrol Quartermaster, Order of the Arrow Representative, and the OA position of Chapter Chief.

Trent is a 2016 graduate of St. Charles East High School. He received the Chamber of Commerce Industrial Arts Scholarship, was a P.E. gym leader, and competed as a varsity swimmer. Trent is attending Elgin Community College where he plans to earn an associate degree in engineering science before transferring to University of Illinois to study mechanical engineering.
