Boomers win streak snapped in shutout

The Schaumburg Boomers saw an 8-game win streak come to a close with a 9-0 loss to the Joliet Slammers on the road Friday night.

Joliet scored in each of the first three innings against Schaumburg starter Seth Webster to take control of the game early. Leading 3-0, the Slammers strung together six singles in a four-run third to open a 7-0 lead. Webster allowed seven runs in five innings to suffer the loss. The Boomers managed only five hits in the game with two coming from Shawn Payne, who extended his hit streak to six games. Mark Nelson saw a 17-game on-base streak come to a close.

The Boomers (16-15) continue a brief three-game weekend road series with Joliet on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. RHP Scott Schultz (2-1, 3.75) is the scheduled starter for Schaumburg while Joliet has not announced a starter.
