Schaumburg Boomers win eighth straight game

The Schaumburg Boomers came back from an early deficit Thursday afternoon to sweep the Traverse City Beach Bums in a 6-3 victory. The win was the Boomers eighth straight.

Traverse City led 2-0 in the third before the Boomers Justin Byrd and Mark Nelson hit back-to-back RBI singles to tie up the game.

Schaumburg took the lead in the fourth on Kolten Yamaguchi's first professional hit that plated Paul Kronenfeld and Shawn Payne. Payne extended the lead in the seventh with a 2-run single. The Beach Bums scored one in the ninth, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Josh Heddinger earned his second win of the season, hurling 6 innings of 3-hit baseball, striking out four and giving up 2 runs. Nelson reached base for the 17th straight game and Payne extended his hitting streak to 5 games. In his first appearance for Schaumburg, Yamaguchi went 3-4 with 3 singles. This victory marks the second-longest winning streak in Boomers history.

The Boomers take on the Joliet Slammers Friday night in Game 1 of a three-game series at Silver Cross Field.
