Mount Prospect woman killed in crash

A 55-year-old Mount Prospect woman was killed Thursday when she was struck by a vehicle while on a bicycle at a designated crosswalk on Central Road, authorities said.

Joni Beaudry, 55, had activated the crossing signal and began to cross Central at Weller Lane at 9:41 a.m. on Thursday when a black Lexus SUV driven by Hanna Burzynska, 56, of Elk Grove Village struck Beaudry.

Authorities said Beaudry was trying to cross northbound across Central and waited to cross until after the vehicles in the eastbound lane of Central Road stopped.

The Mount Prospect Fire Department transported Beaudry to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where she later died from her injuries.

Eastbound lanes of Central Road were closed to traffic for approximately 5 hours while the initial investigation took place.

Burzynska, the sole occupant of the Lexus, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

The Mount Prospect Police Department and the Major Case Assistance Team's Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the accident. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any additional information is asked to contact police at (847) 870-5656.
