Schaumburg Boomers edge Beach Bums 2-1

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Schaumburg Boomers scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to secure a 2-1 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums on the road Wednesday night.

Mark Nelson opened the ninth inning with a solo homer over the wall in right to tie the game after working the count against Traverse City closer Andrew Brockett. The homer marked his first of the season and the first for the Boomers since May 29.

Dusty Robinson followed with a double and pinch runner Chris Robinson scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly from Shawn Payne. The 2 runs gave starter Gunnar Kines a no-decision.

Kines tossed a season high 7⅓ innings and allowed just a fourth inning unearned run while scattering 3 hits and striking out four.

Dexter Price collected the win in relief, notching a pair of strikeouts in 1⅔ innings. Price left potential insurance runs on base in the eighth with consecutive strikeouts. Nelson extended his hitting streak to 10 games with the homer. Dusty Robinson finished with 2 hits while Ino Patron picked up three.

The Boomers (9-14) conclude the series on Thursday night with the rubber contest at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Kagen Hopkins (1-1, 3.95) makes the start for Schaumburg against left-hander Dylan Stoops (2-0, 2.49).
