Summer concert series returns to Geneva Commons

School is out and summertime is here along the Randall Road corridor.

To ramp up the summer vibe, Geneva Commons is hosting its annual Summer Concert Series this month featuring live music, food and fun outside every week.

This is the 14th annual Summer Concert Series for the mall along the Randall Road corridor.

There will be some returning favorites at the concert series this year, as well as newcomers that organizers hope will appeal to the crowds.

As part of the series, every Wednesday and Sunday in June you'll get to hear different artists performing live in the mall's courtyard near Houlihan's.

The Wednesday shows run from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and the Sunday shows are from 5-7 p.m.

The concert series kicked off Sunday with the Semple Band, featuring Keith Semple, who appeared on NBC's show "The Voice." Semple formerly was a part of 7th heaven, which has played to large crowds at the Geneva Commons Summer Concert Series for many of the past years.

The show Wednesday, June 8, runs from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and features The Neverly Brothers.

On Sunday, June 12, there will be two bands performing. If you get there early, at 4 p.m., Summer Monkey Band will take the stage. Summer Monkey Band is a group of six young musicians who formed their own family band, inspired by 7th heaven.

Beginning at 5 p.m., 7th heaven will take the stage until 7 p.m., playing everything from Def Leppard to The Beatles.

On Wednesday, June 15, The Hat Guys will perform.

The Hillbilly Rockstarz will take the stage Sunday, June 19. Stereo Hart will perform Wednesday, June 22.

Back again for another concert series will be Hi-Infidelity Sunday, June 26.

The concert series will end Wednesday, June 29, with a performance by Serendipity.

The concerts will be held as long as the weather cooperates.

Spectators are welcome to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit down and enjoy the live music. They also are welcome to get up and dance.

In the past, many families and friends have made a night of it and brought food along or purchased food at many of the Geneva Commons businesses, many of which will be open during the shows.

All of the concerts are free and open to the public.

Touch-A-Truck: For all of the fire truck fans out there - whether they are young or old - Algonquin Commons is hosting the perfect event for you.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 26, the Randall Road area mall is hosting the Touch-a-Truck event.

It will feature fire trucks, as well as any other available emergency vehicles in the area. You are welcome to check them out up close at the event, which will feature many of the hometown heroes that operate these vehicles.

The event is free and open to the public.
