Beware of Route 60 work in Fremont Township

Drivers will need to find a way around Route 60 between Cedar Lake and Fairfield roads in Fremont Township this week.

The Illinois Department of Transportation project closed Route 60 starting Monday in the Round Lake area to accommodate work to remove an old drainage structure under the thoroughfare. Officials said both sides of Route 60 need to be closed for the work, which is expected to last until 3 p.m. Friday, June 10.

Posted detour signs encourage drivers traveling east on Route 60 to go north on Fairfield Road, east on Belvidere Road/Route 120 and south on Cedar Lake Road to reconnect to Route 60. Westbound traffic on Route 60 should use the reverse route.

Motorists should be prepared for delays and allow extra time for trips through the area, IDOT officials said. Drivers also should be on the lookout for flaggers and equipment in the work zones.
