Des Plaines Fire Department visits Creative Corners Preschool

The Des Plaines Park District's Creative Corners Preschool recently welcomed firefighters from the Des Plaines Fire Department. The kids were very excited to sit behind the wheel of a fire truck, walk through an ambulance, and learn about many of the firefighter gadgets.

Engineer Jeff Gove was on hand both days and talked to the preschoolers about fire safety. He quizzed the children and was pleased to see that the 3- to 5-year-olds had a keen knowledge on what to do and what not to do in the case of a fire emergency.

"We have been learning about fire safety in the classroom," said Terrific 3's Preschool Director Susan Poklop. "What a wonderful opportunity for the children to meet real-life firefighters."

Creative Corners meets twice a week, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, with the option of adding Friday. The Terrific 3's meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon; the Fantastic 4's and 5's meet from 9 a.m. to noon. Weekly study units prepare the children for their future educational career by encouraging small and large motor skills, literacy, and socialization skills.
