Lieser to fill Sauceda's seat in South Elgin

Longtime South Elgin resident Greg Lieser will be appointed Monday to fill an empty seat on the village board, officials said.

Village President Steve Ward, charged with making the appointment, said he consulted board members who gave their thumbs-up to his choice.

"(Lieser) has been active (in the village) for quite a while, and I've seen how he works," Ward said. "He's a very levelheaded guy."

South Elgin Trustee Robert Sauceda resigned his seat last month in the wake of questions about his residency, an inquiry that gained momentum after village officials learned he faces forgery charges in DuPage County.

Lieser served on the village's planning and zoning commission and the South Elgin Economic Development Council, and works as vice president and commercial loan officer for First Community Bank in Elgin. His financial knowledge will be an asset to the village, Ward said.

"He has a better connection on that stuff than most," he said.

Lieser, who's lived in South Elgin since 1990, said he was honored to be selected to serve the remainder of Sauceda's term, which expires in April.

"I enjoy working on economic development issues and I enjoy working with village staff. I just enjoy volunteering in my community," said Lieser, who also serves as board president for the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin.

"The opportunity to serve at this level, I found it very appealing and interesting," he said.
