Can Chicago White Sox get things turned around on long road trip?

The Chicago White Sox got off to the best start in the American League this season, in large part because of their stellar play away from U.S. Cellular Field.

The Sox were 12-5 on the road before slipping a bit (2-4) at Texas and New York on their last trip, and they headed back out after wrapping up a 10-game homestand Wednesday with a 4-3 loss to Cleveland.

The White Sox open a 10-game trip Thursday night at Kansas City. They also play an interleague series against the Mets in New York before finishing in Detroit.

"It's going to be a long road trip," Todd Frazier said. "It's going to be a fun one. We like playing on the road and get back to what we do. No excuses, just go out there and bust your tail off, that's all we ask win, lose or draw. We're trying to win but we have to play hard."

The Sox are only 13-12 at U.S. Cellular Field, but they're 14-9 away.

"We don't mind playing on the road," Adam Eaton said. "We kind of come together as a team, us versus the world type mentality that we kind of enjoy. It's a long road trip. It's always big going on the road, especially when you're playing divisional opponents."

Hot and cold:

Much like last season, when he got off to a promising start before disappearing in June and July, Avisail Garcia is struggling to find consistency with his swing.

Garcia was 2-for-19 on the White Sox's homestand, which wrapped up Wednesday, before going 2-for-4 in a 4-3 loss to the Indians.

Prior to the slide, Garcia batted .439 (18-for-41) during an 11-game hitting streak.

Garcia lost his starting job in right field to Adam Eaton after Austin Jackson was signed to play center field in spring training.

Still having trouble adjusting to designated hitter duties, Garcia might get another shot at playing the outfield - in left.

"He's getting some fly balls out there," manager Robin Ventura said. "That's probably going to be the rotation for him to be able to get out there and get on the field."

Staying put:

New York Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey has lost his last three starts while allowing 16 earned runs on 27 hits in 13.1 innings.

Harvey's velocity has dipped, and fatigue could be a factor after the right-hander pitched 216 innings last year, a career high.

For now, New York manager Terry Collins said Harvey is staying in the rotation, and his next scheduled start is Monday against the White Sox at Citi Field.

Gordon was injured against the Sox Sunday after colliding with teammate Mike Moustakas while chasing Melky Cabrera's foul popup. Gonzalez lost to the Royals at the Cell on Saturday, but it was his best start for the White Sox. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings and had 8 strikeouts. Gonzalez made 2 starts at Kauffman Stadium when he pitched for the Orioles and was 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA. Duffy started against Gonzalez Saturday and pitched 4⅓ scoreless innings before being pulled. Kansas City has won four straight series, going 2-1 vs. the Braves, Red Sox, White Sox and Twins.
