Wrong to send loving mother to prison

I am disgusted and sickened at the sentencing of four years in prison for Bonnie Liltz by County Judge Joel Greenblatt for the "killing" of her daughter Courtney.

Her defense attorneys had sought and prosecutors recommended she receive four years of probation and no prison time. But no, Judge Greenblatt not only sentenced her to all four years in jail but also had her taken into custody immediately.

This selfless woman adopted Courtney after both her biological mother and first adoptive parents surrendered her to the state. How many of us could have done what Bonnie Liltz did? She cared for Courtney 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As stated in the Daily Herald, "Courtney was loved and cared for from the moment she rose until the moment she went to bed."

I understand what Bonnie Liltz did was wrong, but I could not sentence to her to any prison time. I understand probation, community service, but four years in prison?

She saw what happened to her daughter after just a week in a state facility; unattended, wet and soiled. What would have happened in a month, year, etc., if Bonnie couldn't care for her.?

As opposed to seeing what Bonnie Liltz had done for 19 years and showing compassion, Judge Greenblatt displayed ignorance. Be sure come election time, I'll be looking for Judge Greenblatt on the ballot and make sure I mark "NO" next to his name for reappointment; I hope you do the same.
