Palatine school mourning death of classmate

Students and staff at Winston Campus Junior High in Palatine are mourning the loss of a classmate who died Wednesday night after suffering a seizure.

David Angeles, 14, of Rolling Meadows, was an 8th grade student at the Palatine school, according to a statement sent to Winston families and staff Thursday by Principal Matt Warren.

"This is a tragic loss and our thoughts are with David's family, friends and the District 15 staff who served him," Warren wrote.

The school had additional social workers on campus Thursday to support students and staff, he added.

Rolling Meadows police said David suffered a fatal seizure. It occurred about 7 p.m. at a shopping center along Algonquin Road near his home, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The medical examiner's office Thursday determined the cause of David's death to be complications of valvular heart disease and Down syndrome.
