No one injured at Wauconda house fire

No one was injured during a house fire in Wauconda on Wednesday afternoon.

A resident returned home around 5:11 p.m. and discovered fire burning along the exterior of an attached garage at the home in the 500 block of Nancy Court, according to a news release from the Wauconda Fire Department.

The resident was able to call her brother, who was still inside the home but unaware of the fire. He was able to get out of the home uninjured with the family pets, officials said. A neighbor had started using a garden hose on the fire until officials arrived.

Wauconda, Lake Zurich, Round Lake and Nunda fire departments responded and quickly extinguished the fire.

The fire was determined to have originated within a plastic trash container that was along the exterior of the garage, though the cause is still being investigated. Damages were estimated at $35,000.
