Fox Lake Fire Hydrants 2016

THE VILLAGE OF FOX LAKE IS GETTING "FIRED UP!"

"It's an art thing, inspire hydrants" brings art to the streets of Fox Lake

FOX LAKE, IL (MAY 2016) - In an effort to promote art in the community for all to enjoy, the Village of Fox Lake is pleased to announce its inaugural public art installation exhibit, "Inspire Hydrants". Beautifying the streets of downtown Fox Lake from early July through the Fall, 12 decorated, retired fire hydrants will be displayed along Grand Avenue. This installation will culminate with a public auction to further the creative economy in Fox Lake.

"We're thrilled to promote this first annual outdoor public art exhibit in downtown Fox Lake," says Donovan Day, Community Development Director, Village of Fox Lake. "We are certain the retired fire hydrants will be creatively repurposed, making the downtown more vibrant while drawing in visitors to stroll and shop among our Fox Lake businesses."

The Village is currently seeking eligible artists to participate in this public art exhibit of retired fire hydrants donated by the Fire Department through June 1st, with designs being reviewed by a jury on June 3rd. Selected artists will be announced June 6th via www.foxlake.org. Artists are encouraged to add features to the hydrants beyond paint and designs can be submitted through The Village of Fox Lake.

Walking tours will be available throughout the installation and a celebratory event and auction will be held October 8 at Lakefront Park. Artists will be on hand to discuss their process and vision. All money raised will help fund the art community in Fox Lake.

Please contact Donovan Day at 847-587-3176 or dayd@foxlake.org with questions on submissions.
