Probe continues into damage of two Lake Zurich squad cars

Lake Zurich police said Thursday that an investigation continues into a confrontation that resulted in damage to two squad cars.

Police said they responded about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday to the 800 block of South Rand Road on a report of a car following another vehicle into a mall parking lot for an unknown reason.

Officers tried to make contact with the man who drove a 2002 black Volvo behind a 2003 silver Infiniti into the mall, police said, but he didn't respond. Police said the Volvo driver then started to ram into the other man's Infiniti.

As the Infiniti driver left the parking lot, the other man followed him again, police said. They said an attempt was made to stop the Volvo driver with a squad car, but he kept going and went toward two officers who got out of the way.

Both vehicles traveled about one block and turned from northbound Rand onto June Terrace, police said. At this point, authorities said, an officer was able to put his squad car in between the victim's Infiniti and the Volvo.

Two squad cars, the Volvo and the Infiniti were damaged in the incident, police said. The Infiniti driver was taken for evaluation at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington.

Lake Zurich police said they are consulting with Lake County prosecutors on what, if any, charges may be brought in the case.
