Historiography book group meets in West Chicago

Historiography, a book discussion group held in collaboration with the West Chicago City Museum and the West Chicago Public Library District, now meets noon to 1 p.m. once a month on Thursdays on the second floor of the museum, 123 Main St.

The meetings are full of supplemental materials, activities and questions that are meant to further the discussion of the topics at hand. Participants are not required to have read the books, but are encouraged to do so.

Copies of the book are available for checkout at the City Museum and the West Chicago Public Library, 118 W. Washington St. Books for discussion have been announced for May through July:

• May 19: "Rising Up from Indian Country: The Battle of Fort Dearborn and the Birth of Chicago" by Ann Durkin Keating

• June 16: "Picturing Illinois: Twentieth-Century Postcard Art from Chicago to Cairo" by John A. Jakle

• July 21: The movie "Trail of Tears: A Native American Documentary Collection"

"The group is a great way to explore historical topics with a variety of people who come from different walks of life. Sharing our unique perspectives helps us see history in a new light," said Sara Phalen, museum director.

The group is open to all, and those attending should feel free to bring a bag lunch; complimentary drinks and desserts will be provided.
