Body pulled from Lake Michigan identified as missing Palatine man

A body pulled from Lake Michigan last week near Grant Park in Chicago has been identified as that of a Palatine man who went missing more than two months ago, authorities said Tuesday.

Jeffrey J. MacDonald, 59, was reported missing Feb. 25 after driving away from his home about 2:30 a.m. that morning. Bank records showed he stopped at a TCF Bank in Shorewood, near Joliet, at about 11:30 a.m. that same day, but there was no trace of him afterward, Palatine police said.

Family members said he had been distressed about personal matters recently and they feared for his safety, police said in February.

The Chicago Police Marine Unit recovered the body later identified as MacDonald's about 6:30 a.m. April 25, at 525 S. Lake Shore Drive, authorities said. The cause and manner of death are pending, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
