Abduction attempt reported in Des Plaines area

A man who appeared to hold a knife tried to abduct a boy Monday morning near Des Plaines, Cook County sheriff's police say.

The attempted abduction took place about 9 a.m. in an unincorporated area near the 10000 block of Holly Lane. A man told the 10-year-old boy to "come here," sheriff's officials said in a news release.

The boy had missed the school bus and was returning home when he saw the man. The boy ran home, while the man left the area on foot, police said.

The man is described as in his 40s with a dark complexion, standing 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing 190 to 210 pounds. He has dark brown eyes, black hair with a birthmark or blemish above his eyebrow. He wore a plaid Kangol-style hat and a tan trenchcoat.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at (708) 865-4896 or (847) 635-1188.
