Police: Elgin teen breaks into home through window

An 18-year-old from Elgin faces a felony residential burglary charge after police said he broke into an Elgin home Friday morning.

Hunter J. Stone also is charged with obstructing a police officer, a misdemeanor. A Kane County judge on Saturday set Stone's bail at $10,000.

Officers were called about 10:17 a.m. Friday by a witness who saw a person rip a window screen and enter the home through the window on the 1900 block of College Green Drive, police said.

Officers set up a perimeter around the home and saw Stone exiting the front door with a bag full of proceeds, police said.

Stone, who lives on the 1900 block of Muirfield Circle, gave a false name when he was taken into custody and was eventually identified, police said.

The residents later arrived to the home and told investigators that no one had permission to be inside, police said.

Stone would have to post $1,000 to be released from Kane County jail while his case is pending.
