Roselle man gets probation, jail for head-butting Metra conductor

A Roselle man who broke a Metra conductor's nose during a dispute over a fare last July was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation and 60 days in DuPage County jail.

Jack Kamysz, 65, of the 22W100 block of Irving Park Road, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery of a transit employee or passenger, according to court records. He will turn himself in to begin serving his sentence on May 19.

In addition to not being allowed to have contact with the conductor, Kamysz also was ordered to wear an alcohol-detection bracelet for the duration of his probation.

Authorities said Kamysz was on a Metra train approaching the Bensenville station around 6:54 p.m. July 6, 2015, when a conductor approached him and asked for his fare. Kamysz responded with a vulgarity, authorities said.

When the conductor tried to escort him to the train's vestibule, authorities said, Kamysz head-butted the conductor and broke his nose.

Metra police removed Kamysz from the train at the Bensenville station.

Kamysz will receive credit for the 18 days he already served before he posted his $50,000 bail.
