Bears legend needed to enforce traffic laws

I read with interest the letter on enforcing traffic laws. He mentioned the many scofflaws including drivers using a hand held phone talking and texting, "yield to pedestrians" in walkway, and rolling speed on a right turn when red.

Sadly, the wave of distrust and frustration is not being answered by the responsible areas of government enforcement.

I am proposing an additional penny transit tax to fund a new position - Commissioner of Common Sense. This badly needed position would help to solve the writer's problems. The COCS would be able to take immediate corrective action on the scribe's concerns, and strong consequences, including jail time for repeat offenders, would follow the law breakers.

The COCS must start with a winning personality whom has credibility within the local community. I am asking Bears NFL Hall Of Famer, Mike Singletary, to serve the fist year. He could hire Bears players to be the enforcers of the penalties levied. This would free up the author's police team to do other things in the community. Mike and his Bears Enforcers could help to spearhead the much needed change in the current toxic culture of " me first" and " I am above the law" found in Chicagoland.

Similar traffic law letters to the editor would become a thing of the past as the violators would have to answer to Mike and his imposing Bears watch dogs. Plus, it just might make the letter writer's roads, as he requested, safer.
