Abreu comes through as White Sox edge Rangers in 11

The Chicago White Sox keep getting quality pitching and strong defense.

But if they are hoping to build off a promising start to the season, the offense needs to pick it up.

Taking the mound in Saturday afternoon's 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers in 11 innings at U.S. Cellular Field, starter Carlos Rodon bounced back nicely, pitching 6.2 innings and giving up 2 runs on 2 hits. In his last outing, Rodon lasted just one-third of an inning against the Angels, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks.

Rodon was back on his game, and second baseman Brett Lawrie made a highlight defensive play in the third inning, diving to glove a Delino DeShields grounder up the middle and flipping the ball behind his back to Jimmy Rollins and forcing out Rougned Odor.

As for the offense, the Sox's bats were silent outside of Melky Cabrera before they rallied for 2 runs in the eighth inning.

Todd Frazier hit a one-out homer off Texas reliever Sam Dyson to tie the game at 2, and Dioner Navarro singled to score Cabrera to put the White Sox in front 3-2.

The Rangers tied the game in the ninth inning on Elvis Andrus' sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the 11th, Navarro drew a leadoff walk against Nick Martinez and Austin Jackson was hit by a pitch.

After Adam Eaton also walked to load the bases, the Rangers went with a five-man infield and Rollins grounded to short, with Andrus throwing home to force out Navarro.

Jose Abreu followed with an RBI single to left field to end it.

Cabrera homered in the second inning for the White Sox, who came into the game ranked last in the American League in on-base percentage (.278) and second to last with 53 runs scored.
