No one hurt in Island Lake armed standoff

A 90-minute police standoff with an armed, suicidal man ended peacefully Tuesday night in Island Lake, authorities said.

The confrontation occurred at a house on the 200 block of Red Oak Court. The 57-year-old man was armed with a handgun and barricaded himself inside the house, police said.

During the standoff, he pointed the gun at police and demanded they shoot him, according to a news release. Eventually, the man surrendered, police said.

Officers from several agencies responded to the emergency. Island Lake police declined to identify the gunman, citing the nature of the standoff. Charges are pending, police said.
