Softball: Thirteen hardly unlucky for Fremd

After 13 games last year, Fremd's softball team had one loss.

Tough to top?

Not for these Vikings.

They made it 13 wins in a row to start this spring after Tuesday's 9-5 nonconference win over 2014 state champion Warren in Gurnee.

Sophomore Jessica Mazur (4-0) threw a complete game with 8 strikeouts for Fremd. Leading the Vikings' offense were Abby Iuorio (2-for-3, triple), Kylie Hess (2-for-3) and Becca Uhrich (2-for-5).

Elk Grove 11, Carmel 8: Junior Anna Bonder raised her record to 3-0 by striking out four in a complete-game effort over the visiting Corsairs.

Senior Sarah Pauscher clubbed her sixth homer of the season and fourth in four games.

Also leading the offense for the Grens were Kylie Thomsen (2-for-4), Haley Itzenthaler (2-for-4, 4 runs, 2 walks), Amy Pietruszynski (2-for-3) and Alex Masnica (2-for-4, 3 RBI).

South Elgin 3, Palatine 2 (9 inn.): Stacy Bellack drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Storm (5-11) to a nonconference win over the visiting Pirates (3-6).

Alexa Rogalla had 2 hits with a triple and an RBI for South Elgin and Hannah Gordon added a double. Geneva Pollman pitched a complete game for the win.
