Aurora man accused of breaking into car in Elgin

A 31-year-old Aurora man was charged Tuesday with breaking into a car in Elgin to steal its stereo, police said.

Alton L. Agee, of the 500 block of South Spencer Street, will appear in Kane County bond court Wednesday to face felony charges of burglary to a motor vehicle and possession of burglary tools, Elgin police said in a news release.

Police say Agee used a pry tool to break into a maroon vehicle on the 200 block of Locust Street about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday and take the stereo from the dash. Witnesses notified nearby security officers they saw a man park his car next to the maroon vehicle and try to break into it. Agee fled on foot when he noticed he was spotted by the officers, according to the news release.

Elgin police found Agee hiding in a nearby backyard, and he was identified by witnesses.
