Warehouses proposed for North Aurora golf course

The Valley Green Golf Course in North Aurora could become the home of warehouses and a distribution center under a proposal being floated by a developer.

It would need some help from the village, however, to get an appropriate access road to the site.

The North Aurora village board will discuss the idea during a committee meeting set to begin after the regular 7 p.m. meeting Monday.

Pizzuti Development of Ohio wants to combine the 61-acre golf course, at 314 Kingswood Drive, with a 25-acre property to the east of it. The golf course portion would be developed first.

The golf course currently is served by a road that routes through a residential neighborhood, according to a memo to the board. And even if the eastern land, which fronts Route 31, were developed at the same time, having trucks make left turns off Route 31 isn't desirable, according to the memo.

But if Poplar Place were extended north, and curved to the east, it could connect to the golf course. Trucks would turn off Route 31 onto Airport Road, which already serves businesses, then on to Poplar Place.

That extension would run through part of a village-owned wetland. The board is being asked if it is willing to consider selling part of the wetland for the road, or granting an easement.

The golf course is still operating, but the village's Comprehensive Plan Future Land Use plan identifies it as being appropriate for offices and light industrial uses. The other parcel is marked for village center/mixed use.

The developer has submitted only a concept plan. Site, landscaping and building elevation plans have not been submitted.
