Two found shot in Barrington

Two people were shot and hospitalized early Sunday morning in Barrington, police said. According to Barrington police, officers were called to the area of Route 14 and Shorely Drive at 3:09 a.m. on reports of a possible shooting. Two victims found at the scene were taken with the assistance of the Barrington Fire Department to the hospital for treatment, police said. Full story.

Aurora man, 93, dies after crash in Sugar Grove Township

An Aurora man died after a two-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon in Sugar Grove Township, authorities said. A preliminary investigation determined a van was traveling west on Hankes Road about 12:40 p.m. when it crossed the centerline for an "unknown reason" and hit an oncoming vehicle, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Peter Mickle, 93, driver of the van, was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, officials said. Full story.

Police: South Elgin man shot by own gun during home invasion

A South Elgin man faces multiple felony charges alleging he pulled a gun earlier this month on an Elgin man who'd caught him trying to break into his car. Lewis C. McCracken, 20, of the 100 block of Josephine Drive, is charged with home invasion and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon stemming from the April 2 confrontation during which he was shot in a struggle over the weapon, police said. He appeared in court yesterday, when a judge set his bail at $500,000, and he is expected to return to court Wednesday. Full story.

SciTech museum in Aurora unveils portable planetarium

Arlene Hawks, executive director of the SciTech Hands On Museum in downtown Aurora, is making the museum's cafeteria into a true extension of the rest of the museum, filled with lessons about nutrition and composting. The new-look cafeteria is only one example of how Hawks has left a visible - and colorful - mark on the museum since the board of directors hired her as executive director three years ago. Another new addition is a portable planetarium called the "Starlab" that can be rented from the museum at 18 W. Benton St. Full story.

Willett wins Masters after shocking Spieth collapse
