One dead, one injured after Sugar Grove Twp. crash

An Aurora man died after a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Sugar Grove Township, authorities said.

A preliminary investigation determined a Chrysler Town & Country van was traveling west on Hankes Road about 12:40 p.m. when it crossed the centerline for an "unknown reason," according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The vehicle, driven by Peter Mickle, 93, of Aurora, hit an oncoming Mazda CX-9 near Windsor Drive, officials said.

Mickle was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora with life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office. Authorities later confirmed he died at the hospital.

The driver of the Mazda, Sugar Grove resident Tracey Miller, 49, also was hospitalized for injuries that don't appear to be life-threatening, Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Hankes Road was closed after the crash but reopened about 4 p.m., authorities said.

No tickets have been issued so far, officials said. Sheriff's deputies and members of the county's accident reconstruction team are investigating the cause of the crash.
