District 54 appoints new principal, assistants

A new principal for the Nerge Math & Science Academy in Roselle and two assistant principals elsewhere in Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 have been appointed for the 2016-17 school year.

The District 54 school board on Thursday named Kelly Dvoracek, the assistant principal at Armstrong and Muir elementary schools in Hoffman Estates, the new Nerge principal.

She replaces Brian Lawson, who is moving to LaGrange Elementary District 105 after this year.

Dvoracek was hired by District 54 in 2010 as an instructional coach. Before that, she taught in Cary Elementary District 26.

“I am grateful and humbled by this opportunity and extremely motivated and committed to serving the Nerge community,” Dvoracek said in a statement released by the district.

Shaun Conway, currently a social studies teacher and department chair at Huntley High School, will become assistant principal at Keller Junior High School in Schaumburg this summer.

Conway previously taught at Lake Park and Elk Grove high schools.

Betty Weir, currently a curriculum coordinator in Winnetka Elementary District 36, will become assistant principal at Lakeview School in Hoffman Estates.

She is succeeding Julie Tarasiuk, who will become principal of Einstein Elementary School in Hanover Park when Maribeth Kanoon retires in June.

Weir began teaching in 2008 after getting a master's degree in elementary education from DePaul University. She also has a master's degree in educational leadership from Northeastern Illinois University.
