Aurora man faces charges in January stabbing

A 22-year-old Aurora man has been charged in the Jan. 23 stabbing of a Batavia man outside La Quinta De Los Reyes, a bar on the first block of East New York Street, Aurora police said Thursday.

Shortly after the stabbing, a 36-year-old Aurora man was shot to death in the parking lot behind the bar.

Davonte Bouchee, of the 600 block of Talma Street, faces two counts of aggravated battery in connection with the stabbing, authorities said. He is being held in the Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Police said they arrived at the scene in January to find at least 100 people fighting and shouting in and around the parking lot.

They also found Marcus Holland, 36, lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. Holland was pronounced dead at the scene and police still are searching for his killer.

While officers were on the scene, they were told about the stabbing victim who was sitting inside the bar, authorities said.

Police said it appears the shooting and stabbing followed a large party at the bar. As people were leaving the party, two groups began fighting and shots were fired.

The stabbing, meanwhile, was captured on video by someone who began recording after the shots were fired.

Police said they identified Bouchee as the suspect after reviewing that video and numerous other video clips from several different sources.

They said they believe Bouchee confronted the stabbing victim as the Batavia man tried to go back into the restaurant. They said Bouchee asked the man a gang-related question and then stabbed him in the back with an unknown object.

The victim was treated at an Aurora hospital and released.

Authorities said Bouchee was taken into custody around 11 p.m. April 3 after Special Operations Group investigators stopped the car in which he was riding in unincorporated Kendall County. When they tried to take him into custody, Bouchee ran but was tackled after a short foot chase. Two of the investigators were treated for minor injuries resulting from the arrest.

Police said they believe the shooting and stabbing are connected and related to street gangs.
